Who do you want to be?
Who is the author of your life's story? Is it you? If not, it should be.
From an early age, and throughout our growth into adulthood, we absorb everything around us, whether or not we are aware of that fact at the time. In turn, we pick up habits and ways of thinking, both productive and destructive. But do we allow ourselves to take charge of our own lives and fulfill our dreams, or do we embrace a circle of uncertainty – following a life that we believe is being run for us?
For years I battled with insecurity and self doubt, or a lack of self belief. Perhaps now more than ever we are confronted with so many reasons to believe that we are not good enough, and to give up too easily at what we believe in. But thinking in this way is just that – thinking – creating a pattern of thoughts. It's a learned frame of mind that provokes a particular way of looking at our own lives, which can inevitably lead on to become a self-fulfilling prophecy – what we believe to be true, will undoubtedly manifest in the course of our lives. Once I realised that it was my own way of thinking and my own perspective that informed the decisions that I made in my own life, and that these patterns of thought were contributing to the future that I was creating, I began to take control of what it was that I wanted my life to become. I was able to take the driving seat and choose the design of my life, no longer leaving it to fate.
The knowledge that other people, all of the time, had been breaking themselves free from their own restraints, gave me more inspiration to see that anything was possible. It's just a question of choosing to create your life in the way you most desire, and then sticking to that path. It's all too easy to convince ourselves out of living the life we really want to live, for fear of failure or the pressure of too much attention or too much competition. But all it starts with is one idea. A shining light of simplicity, asking ourselves what we would like to be doing with our lives. Once the idea is there, we can make it into a belief. Not giving up, knowing that many people have been through this transformation before us, and knowing that we can be whatever we choose to be.
There is no such thing as ordinary. We are all completely unique. We simply have to have the courage to celebrate ourselves, to dare to dream and to follow our bliss. The only limits in life, are the ones that we impose on ourselves. In reality, not even the sky is the limit.
